This paper is devoted to proving nonexistence of solutions to the following class of semilinear systems: \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta u=\lambda f(v), &x\in\Omega,\\ -\Delta v=\mu g(u), &x\in\Omega,\\ u=v=0, &x\in\partial\Omega ,\end{cases}\tag{S} \] where \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N\geq1\) is a ball and \(\partial\Omega\) is its boundary. The constants \(\lambda, \mu\) are positive parameters. The nonlinearities \(f, g\) are smooth functions that grow at least linearly at infinity, that is there exist positive numbers \(K_i, M_i\,(i=1,2)\) satisfying \[ f(z)\geq K_1z-M_1\;\text{ and }\;g(z)\geq K_2z-M_2,\;\forall\,z\geq0. \] Also, the authors consider the semipositone case, namely when \(f, g: [0,\infty)\to\mathbb{R}\) are continuous, nondecreasing such that \[ f(0)<0\;\text{ and }\;g(0)<0. \] Then they prove that the system (S) has no solution whenever \(\lambda\mu>\sigma\) for some positive constant \(\sigma.\) The proof of the main result uses energy analysis and comparison methods.
