The authors consider one-parametric families of compact regions in \(\mathbb{R}^d\) with volume \(V(s)\) and surface \(((d-1)\)-dimensional volume) \(A(s)\). The parameter transformation \(r(s)= \int{V'(s)\over A(s)}\,ds\) achieves the differential relation \({dV\over dr}= A\), which stands in the centre of the authors' investigation. If this change of variable reduces to \(r= d{V\over A}\) the authors call the family homogeneous. In particular, any family of similar regions is homogeneous. More generally, a family is homogeneous if all its regions have the same isoperimetric ratio.
