For rational second-order difference equations from the title, i.e., \[ x_{n+1} = A+\frac{x_n^p}{x_{n-1}^r} \] with real parameters \(A,p,r>0\), the following is shown: {\parindent 6,5mm \begin{itemize}\item[(a)] For \(p^2\geq 4r>4\) or \(p\geq 1+r\), \(r\leq 1\), this equation has positive unbounded forward solutions. \item[(b)] In case \(p^2<4r\), or \(2\sqrt{r}\leq p<1+r\), \(r\in(0,1)\), all positive forward solutions are bounded. \end{itemize}} An analogous result is obtained for max-type difference equations of the form \[ x_{n+1}=\max \biggl\{A,\frac{x_n^p}{x_{n-1}^r}\biggr\}. \]
