The paper concerns a regularization method for the sideways heat equation \(u_t=u_{xx}\) on \([0,1]\times [0,\infty)\) with the zero initial condition and boundary conditions at \(x=0\) and \(x=x_0\), where \(0<x_0<1\). One looks for the boundary value \(u(t)=u(1,t)\) at \(x=1\) of a solution of the problem. By using the cosine and sine transforms with respect to the time variable, the considered ill-posed differential problem is formulated in the form of an operator equation. The authors investigate the regularization method based on a projection method in \(L^2(0,\infty)\oplus iL^2(0,\infty)\). Moreover, they construct an approximated solution which uniformly converges to the exact solution \(u_0\) on segments of continuity of \(u_0\). The proposed method is order optimal on the corresponding class of correctness.
