The authors prove part of a conjecture of \textit{P. Borwein} and \textit{K.-K. S. Choi} [Ramanujan J. 7, No. 1--3, 95--127 (2003; Zbl 1038.11056)] concerning an estimate on the square of the number of solutions to \(n=x^2+Ny^2\) for a squarefree integer \(N\). In the second author's paper [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 133, No. 10, 2903--2909 (2005; Zbl 1122.11020)] the remaining case was treated, so that the Borwein-Choi conjecture is now fully proved.
