The authors consider the following strongly damped wave equation with a time-dependent external force: \[ \begin{gathered} {\partial^2u\over\partial^2 t}- \alpha\Delta{\partial u\over\partial t}-\Delta u+ h\Biggl({\partial u\over\partial t}\Biggr)+ f(u)= g(x,t),\quad x\in\Omega,\;t\geq\tau,\;\tau\in \mathbb{R}^1,\\ u(x,\tau)= u_{0\tau}(x),\quad {\partial u\over\partial t}(x,\tau)= u_{1\tau}(x),\\ u(x,t)|_{x\in\partial\Omega}= 0,\quad t\geq\tau,\;\tau\in\mathbb{R}^1,\end{gathered} \] where \(u= u(x,t)\) is an unknown scalar function, \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^N\) is an open bounded set with smooth boundary, \(\alpha\geq 0\). Under some suitable assumptions on the data, the authors first study the existence of a uniform attractor. Secondly, the authors study the case of \(g^\varepsilon(x, t)= g(x,t,{t\over\varepsilon})\) and obtain the estimate of the Hausdorff distance between the uniform attractor \({\mathcal A}_\varepsilon\) of the oscillatory and the uniform attractor \({\mathcal A}_0\) of the averaged equation.
