In the present paper contractive mappings of complete metric spaces satisfying a contractive condition of integral type are considered. It is proved that under some additional conditions, particularly if \(f\) and \(g\) are ``weakly compatible'' or ``weakly commuting'' self-mappings of complete metric spaces, then \(f\) and \(g\) have a unique fixed point. These results extend several previously known results. The method presented here is useful also in the case when a considered mapping is not continuous.
