Chazy studied the classification of the third and higher order ordinary differential equations possessing the Painlevé property (i.e., solutions which have no movable critical points). He derived the following equation \[ \begin{multlined} y'''=\sum\frac{(y'-a_k')(y''-a_k'')}{y-a_k}+\sum\frac{A_k(y'-a_k')^3+B_k(y'-a'_k)^2 +C_k(y'-a_k')}{y-a_k}\\ +Dy''+Ey'+\prod(y-a_k)\sum\frac{F_k}{y-a_k}, \end{multlined}\tag{1} \] where \(y=y(z), \; '=d/dz\) and the poles \(a_k=a_k(z)\) are finite and distinct. The unknown functions \(A_k=A_k(z),\;B_k=B_k(z),\;F_k=F_k(z),\; C_k=C_k(z), \;D=D(z),\;E=E(z)\) for \(k,j=1,\dots,6,\; j\neq k,\) satisfy a system \((S)\) of 31 algebraic and differential equations. The poles \(a_k=a_k(z)\) are parameters of system \((S)\). The first four equations are given by \[ \sum_{j=1}^6A_j=0,\quad \sum_{j=1}^6 a_jA_j=-6,\quad \sum_{j=1}^6 a_j^2 A_j=-2\sum_{j=1}^6 a_j, \tag{S\(_1\)} \] \[ 2A_k^2+\sum_{j=1}^6+\frac{A_k-A_j}{a_k-a_j}=0. \tag{S\(_2\)} \] Solutions of system \((S)\) give necessary and sufficient conditions for absence of movable critical points of solutions of equation (1). The author gives some solutions of system \((S_1)\) and \((S_2)\) as well as a solution of the Chazy system \((S)\).
