The authors prove a number of multiplicity one theorems of the following type: Let \(G\) be a \(p\)-adic reductive group with semisimple subgroup \(H\) and let \(\pi\) be a certain type of irreducible admissible representation of \(G\). All the constituents of \(\pi|_H\) occur with multiplicity one in \(H\). In one result, \(G=G\operatorname{Sp}(4)\), \(H= \text{SP}(4)\) and \(\pi\) has non-trivial central character. In another result, \(G=GU(V)\) and \(H=U(V)\), where \(V\) is a finite dimensional \(p\)-adic vector space with a non-degenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric form. Moreover, as they point out, much of what they prove works not just for \(p\)-adic fields but somewhat more generally. A nicely written article.
