Let \(G\) be a countable group and \(M\) be a proper cocompact even-dimensional \(G\)-manifold with orbifold quotient \(\overline{M}\). Let \(D\) be a \(G\)-invariant Dirac operator on \(M\) acting on sections of a \(G\)-equivariant \(\mathbb{Z}_2\)-graded Dirac bundle. It induces an equivariant \(K\)-homology class \([D]\in K_0^G(M)\) and an orbifold Dirac operator \(\overline{D}\) on \(\overline{M}\) with index \((\overline{D})\in \mathbb{Z}\). Composing the assembly map \(K_0^G(M)\to K_0(C^*(G))\) with the map \(K_0(C^*(G))\to\mathbb{Z}\) given by the representation \(C^*(G)\to\mathbb{C}\) of the maximal group \(C^*\)-algebra induced from the trivial representation of \(G\), the author defines the index \(\text{index}([D])\in\mathbb{Z}\). He proves that \(\text{index}(\overline{D})=\text{index}([D])\) and get explicit formulas for this index. He introduces a cohomological index formula for twisted operators and the decomposition of \(K_0^G(M)\) in terms of the contributions of fixed point sets of finite cyclic subgroups of \(G\) obtained by W. L\(\ddot{\text{u}}\)ck. To apply the decomposition to the class \([D]\), he derives an explicit formula for the contribution to \([D]\) associated to a finite subgroup of \(G\).
