This is a nice study on convergence of the multiplicative and additive Schwarz methods for inequalities containing contraction operators in reflexive Banach spaces. The problem can be considered as a generalization of the fixed-point problem in Hilbert spaces. The multiplicative and additive Schwarz methods are related to subspace correction algorithms when the subspaces are associated with a proper decomposition of the domain in the finite element spaces. Convergence and error estimates are established and measured with the overlapping and mesh parameters. It is shown that the conditions of convergences of the proposed methods are similar to the conditions ensuring the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the problem. The Navier-Stokes equations are used as an example to illustrate the convergence of the one- and two-level Schwarz methods.
