Let \(G\) be a reductive group over a non-Archimedean local field. Choose a split torus of maximal rank and a positive root system with respect to it. Let \(W\) be the corresponding Weyl group. Let \(P= MN\) be a standard parabolic and let \(U(M)\) denote the set of unramified quasi-characters of \(M\). Let \(\sigma\) be an irreducible representation of \(M\). Fix \(w\in W\) and we set \(M'= wMw^{-1}\), \(\sigma'= w(\sigma)\) and \(\chi'= w(\chi)\) for every \(\chi\in U(M)\). Let \(P'= M'N'\) be the standard parabolic subgroup with Levi subgroup \(M'\). Let \(i^G_P\sigma\chi\) and \(i^{G'}_{P'}\sigma'\chi'\) denote the normalized inductions. Let \(H:= \Hom_G(i^G_P\sigma\chi, i^{G'}_{P'}\sigma' \chi')\). If \(K\) denotes a special good, maximal compact subgroup of \(G\) where \(G= KP\), then we may identify \(i^G_P\sigma\chi\) and \(i^{G'}_{P'}\sigma'\chi'\) with \(X:= i^K_{P\cap K}\sigma\) and \(Y:= i^K_{P'\cap K}\sigma'\) respectively, and \(H\subset\Hom_{\mathbb{C}}(X, Y)\). The set \(U(M)\) can be viewed as a complex algebraic torus. Let \(\Gamma(U(M))\) denote its space of regular functions. There is a Zariski open subset \(U(\sigma,w)\) of \(U(M)\) such that for every \(\chi\in U(\sigma, w)\), \(H\) is one-dimensional. The main result of this paper is to prove the following theorem: For every \(\chi\in U(\sigma, w)\), one can choose an \(A(\chi,\sigma, w)\in H\) so that the map \(\chi\mapsto A(\chi,\sigma,w)\) from \(U(\sigma, w)\) to \(H\) is a regular function. Furthermore this extends to a rational function from \(U(M)\) to \(H\). More precisely, there exists a regular function \(a(\chi)\in\Gamma(U(M))\) such that \(a(\chi)A(\chi,\sigma, w)f\in\Gamma(U(M))\otimes Y\) for all \(f\in X\). The proof uses a theorem of Bernstein and a generalization by \textit{W. D. Banks} [Math. Res. Lett. 5, No. 6, 781--790 (1998; Zbl 0944.22007)]. Such rationality statement is very important in the study of the representation theory of \(p\)-adic groups, in particular, the study of complementary series, \(L\)-functions and the Plancherel formula.
