Let \(\mathbf{RS}_n\) stand for the variety generated by all completely [0]-simple semigroups satisfying \(x^2=x^{n+2}\) for a fixed positive integer \(n\). For each positive integer \(m\), the authors define \(\mathbf C_m\mathbf{RS}_n\) to be the class of all semigroups \(S\in\mathbf{RS}_n\) with the following property: if a product of \(m\) idempotents of \(S\) belongs to some subgroup of \(S\), then the product belongs to the center of that subgroup. The authors show that, for any fixed \(n\geq 2\), the classes \(\mathbf C_m\mathbf{RS}_n\) constitute an infinite strictly descending chain of finitely based varieties. A subvariety of \(\mathbf{RS}_n\) is called exact if it is generated by a completely [0]-simple semigroup. Exact subvarieties of \(\mathbf{RS}_n\) form a complete lattice under inclusion (which is, however, not a sublattice of the lattice of semigroup varieties). The main result of the paper characterizes the lattice of exact varieties generated by completely [0]-simple semigroups \(S\) such that the intersection of the idempotent-generated subsemigroup of \(S\) with any subgroup of \(S\) is contained in the center of that subgroup. Namely, the lattice turns out to be isomorphic to a subdirect product of a 4-element chain with the lattice of all central completely simple semigroup varieties over groups of exponent dividing \(n\).
