A quantum analogue \(S_q(n,d)\) of Schur algebras was introduced by \textit{R. Dipper} and \textit{G. James} in [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. 59, 23--50 (1989; Zbl 0711.20007)]. \textit{K. Erdmann} and \textit{D. K. Nakano} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 353, 4729--4756 (2001; Zbl 0990.16018)] have provided necessary and sufficient conditions on the characteristic of the base field, \(q\), \(n\) and \(d\) for \(S_q(n,d)\) to be a semisimple algebra. An infinitesimal analogue \(s(n,d)_r\) of Schur algebras was introduced by \textit{S. R. Doty, D. K. Nakano} and \textit{K. M. Peters} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. 72, 588--612 (1996; Zbl 0856.20025)] in order to study polynomial representations of given degree \(d\) of \(G_rT\), the group scheme associated with the \(r\)-th Frobenius kernel \(G_r\) and with a maximal torus \(T\) of \(\text{GL}_n\). A quantum version \(s_q(n,d)_r\) of each \(s(n,d)_r\) was developed by \textit{A. Cox} in his PhD dissertation and in [Q. J. Math. 51, 39--56 (2000; Zbl 1006.20036)]. These are suitable subalgebas of \(S_q(n,d)\) forming a chain \(s_q(n,d)_r\subset s_q(n,d)_{r+1}\) whose limit is \(S_q(n,d)\). Here the base field is of positive characteristic \(p\) and \(q\) is a primitive root of \(1\). The present paper provides necessary and sufficient conditions on \(p\), \(q\), \(d\), \(r\) and \(n\) for \(s_q(n,d)\) to be a semisimple algebra. The proof makes use of the geometric description of \(S_q(n,d)\) due to \textit{A. A. Beilinson, G. Lusztig} and \textit{R. MacPherson} [Duke Math. J. 61, 655--677 (1990; Zbl 0713.17012)].
