The Newton-like method \(x_{n+1}=x_n-(\lambda F'_{x_n} + (1-\lambda)F'_{z_n})^{-1}F(x_n)\) is considered for approximating a locally unique solution \(x^*\) of an operator equation \(F(x)=0\) in Banach spaces. Here \(\lambda\) is a constant between 0 and 1, and \(z_n\) is a sequence in a neighborhood of the initial point \(x_0\). The authors establish convergence and error estimate of the iteration under general assumptions. It is shown that other variants of Netwon method can be retrieved from the proposed method. Numerical examples are used to illustrate verification of conditions of the convergence theorem.
