This paper deals with a nonlinear degenerate transient eddy current problem involving superconducting materials of the second type. In the first part of the paper the authors deduce the mathematical model, by means of the power law constitutive relation between electric field and current density. A nonlinear time-discrete numerical scheme is then deduced. The existence of a weak solution for each time step as well as its stability, the convergence of the method, as well as the error estimate are discussed in the final part of the paper. The proofs strongly rely on monotonicity methods and the Minty-Browder theory.
