The authors study generalized, i.e., \(g\)-frames in a Hilbert space \(U\), that is, sequences \((\Lambda_i)_{i\in I}\) of linear operators \(\Lambda_i:U\to V_i\) such that \[ A\| f\| ^2 \leq \sum_{i\in I} \| \Lambda_i f\| ^2 \leq B \| f\| ^2, \] for some positive constants \(A\) and \(B\). They generalize some known results in frame theory (where \(\Lambda_i f= <f,f_i>\) for some \(f_i\in U\)) to \(g\)-frames and to fusion frames which is the special case where \(\Lambda_i= \alpha_i \pi_{V_i}\) where \(\alpha_i> 0\) and \(\pi_{V_i}\) is the orthogonal projection onto the subspace \(V_i\) of \(U\). In particular it is shown how to get new \(g\)-frames by considering \(g\)-frames for its components. Furthermore, alternate dual frames, excess of \(g\)-frames, and the stability of \(g\)-frames under perturbations are studied.
