An expository explanation for the main result in this paper is given in the introduction. Accordingly, it has been known by \textit{P. S. Muhly} and \textit{J. N. Renault} [Trans.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 274, 1--44 (1982; Zbl 0509.46049)] that the \(C^*\)-algebra generated by the Wiener-Hopf operators on the Hilbert space on a certain convex cone in a real inner product space is isomorphic to the reduced groupoid \(C^*\)-algebra of the Wiener-Hopf groupoid. It is obtained from its groupoid structure that the \(C^*\)-algebra has a composition series of closed ideals such that its subquotients are decomposed into extensions of groupoid \(C^*\)-algebras, whose KK (theory) classes are determined by both the KK class corresponding to the classical Wiener-Hopf extension and the KK class representing the Atiyah-Singer family index (or the Connes-Skandalis map associated to the tangent groupoid [\textit{A. Connes} and \textit{G. Skandalis}, Publ.\ Res.\ Inst.\ Math.\ Sci.\ 20, 1139--1183 (1984; Zbl 0575.58030)]). This result generalizes a result of \textit{H. Upmeier} [J.~Reine Angew.\ Math.\ 384, 57--79 (1988; Zbl 0628.47018)] for symmetric cones, and it covers cones such as polyhedral and homogeneous ones.
