The authors study the Lie symmetry algebra of the Kohn-Laplace equation on the Heisenberg group \(H^1\), i.e. of the equation \(u_{xx}+u_{yy}+4(x^2+y^2)u_{tt}+4yu_{xt}-4xu_{yt}+f(u)=0\). A complete group classification with respect to \(f\) is performed. It is shown that in the general case the equation possesses a four-dimensional symmetry algebra and that there are five special cases leading to larger algebras. Except for the obvious superposition symmetry in the case of a constant \(f\), all algebras are finite-dimensional and have up to five additional generators.
