Consider the shunting inhibitory cellular neural networks (SICNNs) with time-varying delays governed by \[ x'_{ij}(t) = -a_{ij} x_{ij}(t) - \sum_{C_{k\ell}\in N_r(i,j)} C_{ij}^{k\ell} f\big(x_{k\ell}(t-\tau(t)\big)\big) x_{ij}(t) + L_{ij}(t), \] where \(C_{ij}\) denotes the cell at the \((i,j)\)-position of the lattice, \(N_r(i,j)\) is the \(r\)-neighborhood of \(C_{ij}\), \[ N_r(i,j) := \big\{C_{k\ell}: \max\{| k-i| , | \ell-j| \} \leq r\;,\;1\leq k\leq m\;,\;1\leq \ell\leq n\big\}, \] \(x_{ij}\) is the activity of the cell \(C_{ij}\), \(L_{ij}(t)\) is the external input to \(C_{ij}\), \(a_{ij}>0\) are constants representing the passive delay rate of the cell activity, \(C_{ij}^{k\ell}\geq 0\) is the connection of coupling strength of postsynaptic activity of the cell transmitted to the cell \(C_{ij}\), \(f(x_{k\ell})\) is the activity function representing the output or firing rate of the cell \(C_{k\ell}\), and \(\tau(t)\geq 0\) corresponds to the transmission delay. In this paper, sufficient conditions for the existence and local exponential stability of almost periodic solutions are established. The results are complementary to some existing results in the literature.
