Let \(k\) be a field, \(G\) be a linear algebraic group defined over \(k\) and \(K/k\) be a finite separable extension. One denotes by \(H^1(K,G)=H^1(\text{Gal}(K_s/K,G(K_s))\) the usual first Galois cohomology set, where \(K_s\) is the separable closure of \(K\) in a fixed algebraic closure of \(K\). One uses \textit{flat} cohomology, denoted by \(H_{\text{fl}}^i(.,.)\), instead of Galois cohomology, in characteristic \(p>0\) for group schemes of multiplicative type. In fact, for linear algebraic groups over \(k\), both these cohomologies are canonically isomorphic [see \textit{J. S. Milne}, Étale Cohomology, Princeton Mathematical Series. 33. Princeton, New Jersey: Princeton University Press (1980; Zbl 0433.14012)]. The author proves the following Theorem: Let \(G\) be a semisimple group over a local or global function field \(k\), \(\pi:\widetilde{G}\rightarrow G\) the universal covering of \(G\) and let \(F= \text{Ker}(\pi)\). Then the coboundary map \[ \Delta_k:H_{\text{fl}}^1(k,G)\rightarrow H_{\text{fl}}^2(k,F) \] is bijective. The author applies this to prove that the Corestriction principle holds over local and global function fields. In the Addendum to this paper, the author settles the proof of a case which was omitted in the proof of Proposition 2.3. in the paper.
