The authors study solutions of discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation supplemented with Dirichlet boundary conditions \[ i\dot\psi_n+ \varepsilon(\Delta_d\psi)_n- \Lambda_n|\psi_n|^2\,\psi_n= 0,\;\| n\|\leq K, \] \[ \psi_n= 0,\quad\| n\|> K, \] where \(n= (n_1,\dots, n_N)\in \mathbb{Z}^n\), \(\| n\|= \max(|n_1|,\dots,|n_N|)\), with the \(N\)-dimensional discrete Laplacian \[ (\Delta_d\psi)_{n\in \mathbb{Z}^N}= \sum_{m\in{\mathcal N}_n}\psi_m- 2N\psi_n, \] where \({\mathcal N}_n\) denotes the set of \(2N\) nearest neighbours of the point in \(\mathbb{Z}^N\) with label \(n\). The nonlinearity parameter \(\Lambda_n\in \mathbb{R}^{(2K+ 1)^N}\) is supposed to be site independent and of defocusing kind \(\Lambda_n\geq 0\) but \(\Lambda_n\neq 0\) identically. The existence of time periodic solutions \(\psi_n(t)= e^{-i\Omega t}\phi_n\) \((\Omega> 0)\) is established by using a variational approach with lower bound for the power \(P(\phi)= \sum|\phi_n|^2\). The results are extended to the sign-changing case of the parameter \(\Lambda_n\) by using the mountain-pass theorem.
