The author investigates the robust asymptotic stability and stabilization for a class of uncertain neutral systems with time-varying delays. Delay-dependent and delay-independent criteria are proposed for the stability and stabilization of the considered systems, based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional theory and relevant transformations. State and output feedback controls (such as sliding mode control) are studied and linear matrix inequality formulations are provided for the (asymptotic) stability of the considered uncertain neutral system. As a special feature of the proposed approach, a linear matrix inequality framework and a genetic algorithm are used to solve and to improve the stability and stabilization problems of the uncertain neutral systems analyzed. Two numerical examples illustrate the proposed theoretical approach and support the less conservative results obtained.
