For an integrable function \(f:[a,b]\to\mathbb{R}\), let \(M_f\) denote the integral mean of \(f\) on \([a,b]\). Define the Chebyshev functional by \(T(f,g)=M_{fg}-M_f \cdot M_g\). Estimates for \(T(f,g)\) were proved along the years by Chebyshev, Grüss, Ostrowski, Lupas, etc. Now, the authors derive certain inequalities of new type. The results are obtained by using partial integration and some known integral inequalities (as the Cauchy-Schwarz, Cassel's etc.). For example, letting \(\overline f=f-M_f\), and assuming that \(f\in L[a,b]\) and \(g\in C[a,b]\), we have \(|T(f,g)|\leq \|g\|_\infty\cdot M_{\overline f}\). Here the constant 1 is best possible.
