The authors consider the following boundary value problem for the second-order nonlinear delay differential efquation \[ u''(t)+\lambda g(t, u(t-\tau))= 0,\quad 0< t< 1,\quad u(t)= 0,\quad -\tau\leq t\leq 0,\quad u(1)= 0, \] where \(\tau> 0\) is the delay, and \(\lambda> 0\) is the spectral parameter. The case of singular problem is studied also. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of at least one solution that is positive in \((0,1)\). The proofs are based on a fixed-point theorem in cones.
