The authors construct and study infinite continuous particle systems with an equilibrium Glauber dynamics, which is a special case of a spatial birth and death process. They consider a Dirichlet form corresponding to the generator of the dynamics and prove the existence of an associated Markov process. For a positive potential \(\varphi\) and activity \(z\) with \(\delta :=\int_R(1- e^{-\varphi(x)})z\, dx < 1\) it is proved that the generator has a spectral gap \(\geq 1-\delta\). Furthermore, a Poincaré inequality is derived for any pure Gibbs state. The latter results are generalizations from \textit{L. Bertini, N. Cancrini} and \textit{F. Cesi} [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Probab. Stat. 38, No.~1, 91-108 (2002; Zbl 0994.82054)].
