A transfer matrix \(\Lambda(s)=D+C(sI-A)^{-1}B\), where \(A,B,C,D\) are matrices, is called para-Hermitian if \(A=-A^*\), \(C=-C^*\), \(B=B^*\), and \(D=D^*\). For regular para-Hermitian transfer functions \(\Lambda\) with no poles and zeros on the imaginary axis including \(\infty\), it is shown that \(\Lambda\) possesses a \(J\)-spectral factorization if and only if there is a nonsingular matrix which simultaneously transforms the \(A\)-matrix of \(\Lambda\) and \(\Lambda^{-1}\) in certain triangular block matrices. If the transfer matrix belongs to a smaller class, then this nonsingular matrix can be expressed in terms of the stabilizing solutions of two algebraic Riccati equations, and a formula for a spectral factor is given.
