The \(q\)-deformed Heisenberg algebra \(\mathcal H(q)\) is the associative algebra over a field \(k\) generated by two elements \(A,B\) subject to the defining relation \(AB-qBA=1\), \(q\in k\). If \(q\neq 0,1\) then there is a strictly descending chain of two-sided ideals \(\mathcal H(q)\supset\mathcal H(q)[A,B]\supset\mathcal H(q)[A,B]^2\supset\cdots\) where \([A,B]=AB-BA\). The algebra \(\mathcal H(q)\) is simple if and only if \(q=1\) and the characteristic of \(k\) is equal to zero. If \(q\neq 0,1\) is not a root of 1, then every two-sided ideal of \(\mathcal H(q)\) contains some power of \([A,B]\) and \(\mathcal H(q)[A,B]\) is the unique minimal prime ideal in \(\mathcal H(q)\). Moreover under the same restriction on \(q\) a representation \(\varphi\) of \(\mathcal H(q)\) is faithful if and only if \([\varphi(A),\varphi(B)]^n\neq 0\) for all \(n\). A base of \(\mathcal H(q)\) as a vector space consists of the elements \([A,B]^n\), \(B^l[A,B]^n\), \([A,B]A^l\) for all \(n\geqslant 0\), \(l>0\).
