      The paper is mainly concerned with the existence of multiple (in particular, infinitely many) nodal (sign-changing) solutions of the Schrödinger type elliptic equation \[ -\Delta u+ V(x)u= f(x,u),\quad u\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N),\tag{1} \] to which the time dependent nonlinear Schrödinger equations are reduced when steady states and standing waves are considered. The nonlinearity \(f(x,u)\) involves a combination of convex and concave terms and is odd in \(u\). A typical model of equation (1) considered in this paper is the following equation involving concave and convex terms \[ -\Delta u+ V(x)u= \lambda|u|^{q-2} u+\mu u+\nu|u|^{p-2} u,\quad u\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N), \] where \(1< q< 2< 2^*= {2N\over N-1}\) for \(N> 2\) and \(2^*= +\infty\) for \(N= 2\). The authors use variational techniques.
