Let \(X\) be a Banach space and \(A:D(A)\subset X\rightarrow X\) be a closed operator on \(X.\) We denote by \(\rho(A)\) the resolvent set of \(A\). The operator \(A\) is said to be sectorial in the sector \(S_{\theta ,\alpha,\omega}=\left\{ re^{i\varphi}:r>\omega,\text{ }\theta-\alpha \leq\varphi\leq\theta+\alpha\right\} \) if there are \(\omega>0,\) \(0\leq \theta<2\pi\) and \(\alpha>0\) such that \(S_{\theta,\alpha,\omega}\subset\rho(A)\) and \(\sup_{r>\omega,\,\theta-\alpha\leq\varphi\leq\theta+\alpha}\left\| rR(re^{i\varphi},A)\right\| <\infty.\) When \(A\) is sectorial in two symmetric sectors with respect to the origin, we say that it is bisectorial. The main result of the paper under review is that (under suitable restrictions on the bisectorial operators \(A\) and \(B)\) the interpolation spaces between \(X\) and \(D(A)\) (respectively, \(D(B))\) are maximal regularity spaces for the problem \(Ay+By=x\) in \(X\). This is applied to the study of regularity properties of the evolution equation \(u^{\prime}+Au=f\) (for \(f\in L^{p}({\mathbb R},X)\) or \(f\in BUC({\mathbb R},X))\) and on \([0,2\pi],\) with periodic boundary conditions \(u(0)=u(2\pi)\) (for \(f\in L_{2\pi}^{p}({\mathbb R},X)\) or \(f\in C_{2\pi}({\mathbb R},X)).\)
