The authors study the initial-boundary Riemann problem for a hyperbolic system of conservation laws \(u_t+f(u)_x=0\) in the quadrant \(t\geq 0\), \(x\geq 0\) with nonlinear boundary conditions on the axis \(x=0\). Under the assumption that each positive eigenvalue of \(df\) is either linearly degenerate or genuinely nonlinear, they prove existence and uniqueness of the self-similar solutions. To demonstrate the global structural stability of these solutions, the authors investigate the generalized nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem with the time-perturbated boundary condition. Under certain assumptions, they prove existence and uniqueness of global piecewise smooth solutions, which contain only shocks and contact discontinuities. This shows the global structural stability of the self-similar solution of the original nonlinear initial-boundary Riemann problem.
