Let \(X\) be a finite group and \(G\) a normal subgroup. A classical result from representation theory says that, if the order of \(G\) and the index of \(G\) in \(X\) are relatively prime, then any irreducible complex character of \(G\) that is stable under conjugation with elements of \(X\), can be extended to a character of \(X\). While this extension is unique under certain additional assumptions, it is not functorial in a certain sense, made precise in the article. The main result of this paper is to give sufficient conditions for the existence of a different extension that is functorial. To be precise, it is shown that any Mackey functor \(M\) for \(X\) induces another Mackey functor \(\tilde M\) for \(X\) associated with \(G\). If the order of \(G\) and the index of \(G\) in \(X\) are relatively prime, a sufficient condition is given for the existence of a map \({\tilde M}\longrightarrow M\) extending elements from \(M(G)\) to \(M(X)\), which is compatible with the restriction maps.
