Let \(Q\) be a quiver which is a star, that is, \(Q\) is the Hasse diagram of a finite poset \(I\) obtained from a disjoint union of chains by adding the unique maximal element. Let \(Q_0\) denote the set of vertices of \(Q\). The objective of the paper are subspace representations of \(Q\), that is, filtered representations of the poset \(I\) [see \textit{D. Simson}, Linear representations of partially ordered sets and vector space categories. Gordon and Breach (1992; Zbl 0818.16009)]. All representations are considered over a fixed algebraically closed field \(K\). Take a vector \(d\in\mathbb{N}^{Q_0}\). It is a dimension vector of a subspace representation of \(Q\) if and only if its coordinates \(v_x\) increase along the arms of the tree \(Q\). We write \(d'\preceq d\) if \(d=d'+d''\) for some vectors \(d',d''\) having that property. A vector \(d\) which is a dimension vector of a subspace representation is called \(s\)-tame when there is a one-parameter family of indecomposable subspace representations of \(Q\) with the dimension vector \(d\) and there is no \(m\)-parameter family of indecomposable subspace representations of \(Q\) with the dimension vector \(d'\) for any \(d'\preceq d\) and \(m\geq 2\). The main result is a characterization of the \(s\)-tame dimension vectors for stars. It is proved that \(d\) is \(s\)-tame if and only if \(q(d)=0\) and \(q(d')\geq 0\) for any \(d'\preceq d\), where \(q\colon\mathbb{Z}^{Q_0}\to\mathbb{Z}\) is the usual quadratic form associated with the quiver \(Q\). Moreover, all \(s\)-tame dimension vectors for stars are classified in combinatorial terms. For a similar result see \textit{P. Magyar, J. Weyman}, and \textit{A. Zelevinsky} [Adv. Math. 141, No. 1, 97-118 (1999; Zbl 0951.14034)].
