The paper is concerned with some global constructions and results for generalized analytic functions and vectors (in the sense of I. N. Vekua) in the spirit of classic boundary value problems for analytic functions, with the main aim to show that certain classic results can be extended onto the setting of generalized analytic functions on Riemann surfaces. The central objects of interest are the Riemann-Hilbert problem, linear conjugation problems with piecewise-continuous coefficients, and explicit representation of monodromy matrices. There is used a geometric approach to the Riemann-Hilbert problem and it is shown that it is applicable to generalized analytic functions and vectors. Section 1, Riemann-Hilbert problem, begins with a survey of the classic theory of this problem which serves as a paradigm for further discussion; special attention is paid to the case of piecewise-continuous coefficients. The main result (Theorem 1.3) is based on the Birkhoff factorization in the Lebesgue spaces \(L_p\); basic classic invariants (index and partial indices) are introduced and interpreted in the context of holomorphic boundles defined by monodromy. There is described also an important relation between invariants of \(L_p\) factorization and associated regular systems. Section 2, Local theory of generalized analytic functions, treats basic results for such functions; singular integral operators as well as exponential representations of generalized analytic functions and the similarity principle prove to be of special importance here. It is shown that a version of the similarity principle holds for generalized analytic vectors leading to an extension of previous constructions onto the case. Section 3, Global aspects of generalized analytic functions, deals with boundary value problems on compact Riemann surfaces: basic properties of generalized Cauchy kernels and Cauchy-type integrals are presented; generalized analytic functions and associated integral operators are introduced and it is shown how to construct the associated vector bundle; some properties of cohomology groups with coefficients in the sheaf of generalized analytic sections of the associated bundle are established. Finally, Chen's theory of iterated integrals is used in order to obtain an explicit representation of monodromy matrices; the general results are illustrated by considering the case of hyperanalytic functions in the sense of Douglis.
