The authors give bounds for the depth and the regularity of the symmetric algebra Sym(\(m\)), wobei \(m\) is the maximal ideal of a standard graded \(K\)-algebra \((R,m)\). Using Gröbner bases, they reduce to the case of standard graded \(K\)-algebras with monomial relations. For such algebras they use the theory of \(s\)-sequences and of stable ideals. It is very interesting how they compute initial ideals (w.r. to a given monomial order) in a polynomial ring with base ring that is not a field (as it is in the classical Gröbner bases theory).
