The authors consider the linear delay differential equation \(x'(t)=Lx(t)+Mx(t-\tau)\), where \(L, M\in\mathbb{C}^{m\times m}\) and \(\tau>0\), which they recast into the dynamical system \(\dot{u}=Au\). In order to study the stability of solutions, they need to approximate the infinite spectrum of \(A\). To this end they use pseudospectral methods which reduce the problem to computing the eigenvalues of a finite matrix.
