An almost Hermitian manifold \(M\) is a real \(2n\)-dimensional differentiable manifold with a tensor field \(J\) of type (1,1) such that \(J^2=-I\), and a Riemannian metric \(g\) such that \(g(JX,JY)=g(X,Y)\). An almost Hermitian manifold is said to be almost Kähler if the fundamental 2-form \(\Omega\) defined by \(\Omega(X,Y)=g(X,JY)\) is closed. An almost Kähler manifold is called a Kähler manifold if the underlying almost complex structure \(J\) is integrable. A holomorphically planar conformal vector field (HPCV) field \(V\) is defined by the equation \(\nabla_XV=aX+bJX\), where \(X\) is an arbitrary vector field, \(a,b\) smooth functions on \(M\), and \(\nabla\) the Levi-Civita connection of \(g\). It is known if an almost Kähler manifold \(M\) \((\dim M>2)\) admits a non-closed HPCV field \(V\) then \(V\) is homothetic and almost analytic. Moreover, \(M\) is Kähler if and only if \(V\) is a null vector field. The purpose of this paper is to generalize previously mentioned results on almost Hermitian manifolds \(M\). This is done assuming various conditions such as (i) \(M\) is compact, (ii) the HPCV field is strictly non-geodesic (i.e. none of its integral curves is geodesic), (iii) \(M\) satisfies Gray's first condition (under this condition \(M\) becomes Kähler), (iv) Weyl curvature tensor is harmonic, and (v) the \(M\) is semi-Kähler (in this case either \(V\) reduces to a closed conformal vector field, or \(M\) becomes almost Kähler).
