The authors present some differential recursion relations for Laguerre functions on symmetric cones \(\Omega\). In particular, generalizations of the classical creation, preservation, and annihilation relations are derived from a second-order differential equation. The Laguerre functions on \(\Omega\) are invariant under the compact group \(L\) of linear transformations which leave \(\Omega\) invariant and fix the identity in \(\Omega\); they form an orthogonal basis of all \(L\)-invariant functions in \(L^2(\Omega)\) with respect to a certain measure on \(\Omega\). By taking these symmetries into account, the Laguerre functions on \(\Omega\) may be regarded as Laguerre functions on the quotient. In fact, one obtains well-known Laguerre functions on Weyl chambers associated with Calogero-Moser-Sutherland models and Dunkl operators (mainly in the \(B_n\)-case). These polynomials were studied earlier e.g. by T. H. Baker and P. J. Forrester, J. F. van Diejen, and M. Rösler. In particular, several results of the paper under review can be found already in papers of T. H. Baker and P. J. Forrester modulo this identification of Laguerre functions.
