The authors study the spectral mapping theorem for the neutron transport semigroup in unbounded geometries. This problem was investigated by the authors in the \(L^p\) setting for \(1<p<\infty\) [Semigroup Forum 70, No.~3, 406--435 (2005; Zbl 1081.47045)]. The present paper mainly studies the case \(p=1\). Under certain conditions, the authors show the difference between the \(L^p\) theory and the \(L^1\) theory: the remainder of Dyson--Phillips expansions is norm continuous for \(p>1\), but not continuous for \(p=1\). They derive the spectral mapping theorem for a restricted class of velocity measures, but for general spatial domains and scattering kernels. The approach is based on the harmonic analysis of a certain measure-valued mapping and on functional analytic results for the critical spectrum.
