The author introduces the concept of a 1-degree map of a noncommutative algebra as a map defined by \(f(x)=\sum a_ix b_i\) where \(a_i,b_i\) are fixed elements in the algebra in question. It seems that the author is unaware that in the literature these maps are usually called elementary operators and have been studied extensively by numerous authors. Some of the results that are proved are therefore already known. Certain extensions of 1-degree maps and connections to some other topics are also discussed.
