Given a self map \(f: X\to X\) and a finite regular covering \(p_H: \widetilde X_H \to X\), the Nielsen number \(N(f)\) is shown to be a linear combination of the Nielsen numbers of the liftings of \(f\) with respect to the covering \(p_H: \widetilde X_H \to X\). The coefficients are determined by the behavior of the classical homomorphism on the deck transformation group in the universal covering induced by \(f\) and that of the homomorphisms on deck transformation group in the finite regular coverings induced by the liftings of \(f\). As the author points out, this result is an analogy of the ``Nielsen number product formula'' raised by \textit{R. F. Brown} in [Ann. Math. (2) 85, 483--493 (1967; Zbl 0149.20304)]. A similar result can be found in [\textit{S. W. Kim, J. B. Lee} and \textit{K. B. Lee}, Nagoya Math. J. 178, 37--53 (2005; Zbl 1080.55003)].
