Let \(D\) be an integral domain with quotient field \(K\) and let \({\mathbf X}\) be a nonempty set of indeterminates. If \(*\) is a star operation on \(D\), let \(N_*= \{f\in D[{\mathbf X}]\mid(A_f)^*= D\}\), and let \(*_w\) denote the star operation on \(D\) defined by \(I^{*_w}= \{x\in K\mid xJ\subseteq I\) for some finitely generated ideal \(J\) of \(D\) with \(J^*= D\). An integral domain \(D\) is said to be \(*\)-noetherian if \(D\) satisfies the ascending chain condition on integral \(*\)-ideals. It is shown that \(D\) is \(*_w\)-noetherian if and only if each prime \(*_w\)-ideal of \(D\) is of finite type if and only if \(D[{\mathbf X}]_{N_*}\) is noetherian. A corollary is that if \(D\) is \(*_w\)-noetherian then (1) each \(*_w\)-ideal of \(D\) has a primary decomposition, (2) each \(*_w\)-ideal has only a finite number of minimal prime ideals and (3) if \(P\) is a \(*_w\)-prime ideal of \(D\) which is minimal over an \(n\)-generated ideal, then \(\text{ht}(P)\leq n\). There are also results on the \(*\)-global transform, \(*\)-linked overrings and \(*_w\)-integral closure of a \(*_w\)-noetherian domain.
