Let \({\mathcal P_n}\) denote the set of all complex polynomials of degree \(n\). For \(p\in {\mathcal P_n}\), let \(E_p:=\{z\in \mathbb C\,:\, | p(z)| >1\}\). Then the Remez inequality asserts that \[ | | p| | _{[-1,1]}\leq T_n\left(\frac{2+s}{2-s}\right ) \leq \left(\frac{\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{s}}{\sqrt{2}-\sqrt{s}}\right )^n \tag{*} \] for every \(p\in {\mathcal P_n}\) such that \(m_1([-1,1]\cap E_p)\leq s\), \(0<s<2\), where \(m_1\) denotes linear measure and \(T_n\) is the Chebyshev polynomial of degree \(n\). In the paper under review, the authors establish analogues of (*), and the trigonometric version of (*), with the interval \([-1,1]\) replaced by an arbitrary Jordan arc or Jordan curve and in the trigonometric case the unit circle is replaced by a quasi-smooth curve (in the sense of Lavrentiev). The results established in this paper (are too technical to report here) deal not only with polynomials but also with exponentials of logarithmic potentials.
