      The author considers a subcritical semilinear elliptic problem in an exterior strip domain \(\Omega\) in \(\mathbb R^N\), \(N\geq 3\) \[ -\Delta u + u = \lambda K(x) u^p + f(x) \] where \(u\in H^1_0(\Omega)\), \(u \geq 0\), \(\lambda \geq 0\) The author proves that there exists a value \(\lambda^*\) such that the problem has exactly two solutions for \(0<\lambda<\lambda^*\) and no solution if \(\lambda >\lambda^*\); moreover if \(K(x) \geq K_0 >0\) and \(f\) is bounded there is at least one solution for \(\lambda = \lambda^*\).
