      The authors generalize a result of \textit{D.--J.\,Guo} [Chin.\ Ann.\ Math.\ 2, 65--80 (1981; Zbl 0497.47032)] to strict-\(\psi\)-contractions and condensing maps in an infinite-dimensional Banach space \(X\), where \(\psi\) is the Kuratowski or Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. It depends on a quantitative characteristic \(k_{\psi}\), that is, the infimum of all \(k\geq 1\) for which there exists a \(k\)-\(\psi\)-contractive retraction of the closed unit ball of \(X\) onto its boundary.
