The authors propose a version of the `new better than used' (NBU) and the `new worse than used' (NWU) ageing notions for dependent random lifetimes. The definition is based on the cause-specific sub-distribution functions in the competing risks setup. Various properties of the new notions are studied, including their connection to the cause-specific (or initial) hazard rate functions.
