A cotriangle space is a partial linear, such that each line contains three points and, given a point not on a given line, the point is collinear with zero or two points of the line. The cotriangle space satisfies Pasch's axiom, if any pair of intersecting lines generates a subspace isomorphic to the dual affine plane of order two. Given a partial linear space \(\Pi\) and a field \(K\), the author constructs a free \(K\)-algebra \({\mathcal L}_K(\Pi)\) and proves that \({\mathcal L}_K(\Pi)\) is a Lie algebra if and only if \(K\) is of even characteristic and \(\Pi\) is a cotriangle space satisfying Pasch's axiom. Moreover, it is shown that the structure of the algebra of derivations of the Lie algebra \({\mathcal L}_(\Pi)\) is controlled by hyperplanes in \(\Pi\).
