      A counter example to the main result of the paper of \textit{S. T. Liu} and \textit{Y. Q. Liu} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. 132, 479--482 (2001; Zbl 0993.39005)] dealing with a second-order difference equation of the form \[ T(\Delta_1,\Delta_2)[c_mn\Delta_1(y_mn)]+\sum_{i=1}^sa_i(m,n)f_i(y_{m+1,n},\Delta_1(y_mn))=0 \] is presented.
