Let \(B(H)\) be the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space \(H\). A subalgebra \(A\subseteq B(H)\) is called reflexive if \(A= \{T\in B(H): TP= PTP\), \(\forall P\in\text{Lat\,}A\}\), where \(\text{Lat\,}A\) is the lattice of projections in \(A\). Also, \(A\) is called hyperreflexive if there is a constant \(C\) such that for all \(T\in B(H)\), \(\text{dist}(T,A)\leq C\sup\{\| P^\perp TP\|:P\in \text{Lat\,}A\}\). Such a definition can be given for subspaces \(S\subseteq B(H)\). Such a subspace is called reflexive if \(S= \{T\in B(H): Tx\in\overline{Sx}\), \(\forall x\in H\}\), and hyperreflexive if there is a constant \(C\) such that \(\text{dist}(T, S)\leq C\sup\{\| P^\perp_{Sx} Tx\|:\| x\|= 1\}\). The subspace \(S\) is called \(1\)-hyperreflexive if the minimal such constant equals \(1\). The authors of the paper under review give a complete classification of \(1\)-hyperreflexive subspaces and subalgebras of \(B(H)\). The authors also discuss complete hyperreflexivity and show that there are \(1\)-hyperreflexive subspaces for which the complete hyperreflexivity constant is strictly greater than \(1\).
