The linear algebra of the Pell matrix (Q2493333)

The sequence \(\left\{ P_{n}\right\} \) of Pell numbers is defined by: \(P_{1}=1\), \(P_{2}=2\) and \(P_{n+1}=2P_{n}+P_{n-1}\) for \(n\geq1\). The authors define an \(n\times n\) ``Pell matrix'' \(H_{n}=\left[ h_{ij}\right] \) by \(h_{ij}:=P_{i-j+1}\) when \(i-j\geq0\) and \(0\) otherwise. They prove some elementary properties of \(H_{n}\) and \(Q_{n}:=H_{n}H_{n}^{T}\) and derive identities on the Pell numbers from these.
